Ushers help to maintain order at Masses and other liturcical celebrations, directing people to seating and other building facilities (rest rooms, offices, classrooms, etc. as needed).  Ushers are also responsible for organizing the collection(s) and arranging for offertory procession gift bearers at Mass.
